Analysis:
No prospect has ever burst onto the scene the way Biyombo has over the past five months. He was a relative unknown for most until scouts had the chance to watch him play some impactful minutes for his club team Fuenlabrada in the ACB League. Biyombo was an even bigger presence at the Nike Hoops Summit where he nearly accumulated a triple-double with points, blocks and rebounds. He is not the typical International prospect scouts are used to seeing, but is very similar to the norm with those coming out of the Congo. Like his now NBA famous countryman Serge Ibaka (Oklahoma City Thunder) Biyombo is a terrific athlete with explosive defensive ability. His 6-9 frame makes him undersized as a shot-blocker, but Biyombo makes up for that with a 7-3 wingspan. In the ACB Biyombo was able to play enough quality competition to be on the radar for the 2011 NBA Draft, but the Nike Hoops Summit put him over the top as a potential Top 10 pick. Biyombo is still a very raw prospect on the offensive end; he does not have the skill-set today to have any impact offensively. He is not a shooter, lacks post moves and struggles with offensive awareness. Understand that he is still a prospect, but has the upside to be a Jason Maxiell, Joel Anthony, Reggie Evans or even a Serge Ibaka type player in the NBA. If all the chips fall in line he could be the second coming of Ben Wallace as a defender, he has that high of an upside defensively (and for that matter offensively).
