Analysis:
As far as pure point guards go McCollum is not going to be at the top of the list, but he is improving in that department. He has the court awareness and ball-handling to set the offense and lead a team, but on a team lacking elite scoring talent he is asked to carry that load. Watching McCallum play you see he has the speed and shiftiness to score in a multitude of ways. He can get into the paint and has enough size to score over bigger defenders. His shooting balances the attack for McCollum making him one of the most complete scores in college basketball. McCollum has more value as a point guard still developing his skills and instincts verses being another undersized shooting guard.
An under-looked aspect of his game is that McCollum is one of the best guard rebounders in the country. He has a nose for the ball and is not afraid to crash in the paint with the big men.
