Strengths: Armon is a three year starter for the Wolf Pack, that has gotten better statistically each season. Left-handed player, has good size for the point guard position, and has gotten physically stronger over his tenure at Nevada. His athletic ability and quick first step allow him to get to the basket with ease where he is able to finish at the rim. Knows and understands the limits of his game and stays within them, especially in terms of his jump shot. Fundamentally sound on the defensive end, doesn’t have the eye popping defensive stats, but makes it tough for the opposing guard to get into their offensive sets.
Weaknesses: Shooting will be the topic that GMs, scouts and coaching staffs discuss when evaluating Johnson. At the next level his poor three point shooting (.205% on the season), will be welcomed by opposing defenses when they sag off of him and invite him to take uncontested jumpers. It’s also not uncommon to see Johnson take ill-advised jump shots with only 5-10 seconds running off the shot clock. Although he has improved in creating shots for his teammates, he is still under par in that aspect of his game. His decision making in transition needs to improve as well, as a lot of his turnovers (3.3 turns/per game) are due to poor judgment on fast break opportunities.
