Hassan Whiteside

Selected No. 33 by the Sacramento Kings

College: Marshall
Birthday: 6/13/89
NBA Position: Center
Class: Freshman
Ht: 7-0
Wt: 235
Hometown: Gastonia, NC
High School: The Patterson School
NBA Comparison: Dwight Howard/DeAndre Jordan

Strengths: Hassan Whiteside came out of nowhere and has taken over the country as one of the best big man prospects in the nation. Whiteside has the highly sought after combination of size, strength, speed and length along with great athleticism. He is a bigger menace on defense than Hasheem Thabeet was last season, as Whiteside is averaging over a ridiculous five BPG. He has only fouled out of one game and is starting to grasp the low post but his offensive game is far behind his defensive but that always takes time. It will be interesting to see what Whiteside does this off-season because he will likely ride the bench all next season if he declares himself eligible.

Weaknesses: Whiteside has very little understanding of the post and turns the ball over way too much. He does not react well to the double team, which is a must for a big man on the block. He tends to go weeks without and assist and that will need to change if he wants to be an effective NBA player. He has no jump shot, which is fine and can be fixed in the next five years but his FT stroke (58%) is not helping his projections. Whiteside is a project pick like Patrick O’Bryant but could end up a much better player
