Strengths: Larry Sanders is one of the better defenders in NCAAB this season. He can block shots with the best of them even though he is not seven feet tall. Tremendous wingspan, reportedly around 7’6”. Great athlete, good timing on defense, improving offensively. Great finisher in transition, as no college basketball player likes to defend him around the hoop. Very quick around the hoop; active and energetic. Creates a big time mismatch with his size, speed, and athleticism. Very good rebounder.
Weaknesses: Not very fundamental right now with any part of his game; still very raw. Has shown improvements offensively (FT%, FG%) and is starting to shoot a lot more. He wants to prove NBA scouts that his game is well rounded and tends to get away from his strengths, which are running and jumping. Post game still lacks a counter move as he typically goes strong with his right. Needs to work on defending the pick and roll and keeping the ball high and away from guards. Needs to add strength to those long arms if he wants to stay off the bench next season. Might stay another season at VCU. Does not set great screens or box out well because he dominates athletically. Gets into foul trouble almost every game.
