Solomon Alabi
Selected No. 50 by the Dallas Mavericks (traded to Toronto)
College: Florida State
Birthday: 3/21/88
NBA Position: Center
Class: Sophomore
Ht: 7-1
Wt: 250
Hometown: Nigeria
High School: Montverde Academy
NBA Comparison: DeSagana Diop
Strengths: Solomon Alabi is still a project but is making strides similar to Hasheem Thabeet. He is much more polished offensively than Thabeet but does not dominate defensively like the #2 pick. He has a lot of post moves already and will certainly hone them when he gets to the NBA. Alabi is long and lanky and will need to get stronger, as all rookies do. He makes nearly 83% of his FTs, which is insane, and is an indicator that his offensive game will mature. Good athlete, moves well. Will likely go pro after this season because of his age.
Weaknesses: Still a project as Alabi has very little idea how to play the team game. Struggles with the double team and defending the pick and roll. Needs to take care of the ball more and goes weeks without an assist. Mediocre rebounder. Needs to work on keeping the ball up and away from guards. Potential is questionable because of age but we think he is making great strides already. He should dominate the boards in college but has not. Possible lottery pick if he has good workouts. He needs to play more basketball and become more comfortable with what he is good and not good at.
