Willie Warren
Selected No. 54 by the Los Angeles Clippers
College: Oklahoma
Birthday: 10/22/89
NBA Position: SG
Class: Sophomore
Ht: 6’3”
Wt: 200
Hometown: Fort Worth, TX
High School: North Crowley
NBA Comparison: Ben Gordon
Strengths: Willie Warren has tremendous handles and a very nice jump shot, which means he will likely be able to create space and get his shot off at the next level. A quality guard prospect with only height limiting his potential, Warren has struggled this season because he is the only player worth guarding on OU’s perimeter this season. His shooting percentages are down this season but he is only forcing shots out of necessity. He is super quick and has a very nice stroke and shoots nearly 80% FTs. His assist numbers are up but his TOs are also up, but we think Willie will never be a PG in the NBA and is a very good SG prospect.
Weaknesses: Willie is only 6’3” (do not believe the 6’4” you see), which will make it harder for him in the NBA, but he should be OK. Warren does not defend well, move without the ball well, does not make great decisions with the ball, and does not have a good sense of good shot selection. Most college players struggle with all of these and are all fixable qualities. Warren could use another season in college, as he would likely ride the bench in the NBA next season.
