Wayne Selden – 6-5 230 lbs. – Freshman Guard

Athleticism: Physically, in terms of strength and fluidity Selden is a terrific athlete, but he is not an explosive above the rim athlete like most NBA wings. He has great body control when making plays with the ball and uses his strength to bounce off defenders in the paint absorbing contact. He is not an explosive leaper or finisher, but has the ability to finish above the rim in transition.

NBA Role: Secondary ball-handler and scorer, versatile offensive weapon. The main thing Selden does well is that he can score the ball in a variety of ways. With the ball he is a good play-maker that can get to the rim or make plays for others. As a shooter he is efficient in the mid-range as well as showing NBA three-point range.

Overall Analysis: Selden is a big, physical guard that can absorb contact and has very good body control to finish in the paint. He is an offensively gifted player that can score from about anywhere on the floor. With his ability to shoot the ball out to NBA three-point range Selden can put pressure on the defense with his ability to attack the rim and draw contact. He is not an explosive athlete that can finish above the rim, but is capable of getting their off the bounce. As a ball-handler Selden is best as a second or third option rather than a primary play-maker. He is a little loose with the ball, but has great overall body control. On the defensive end Selden plays with effort and moves his feet well. The effort is there, but his overall defensive game is still a work in progress. Selden has good length as a defender and moves with his man well on the ball, but is less effective off the ball. Offensively Selden is a good passer and play-maker with the ball in his hands. He is an unselfish offensive player willing to move the ball to the open man for a better shot. He is a very team oriented player that makes plays with the offense. As a shooter Selden can be streaky and inconsistent at times, but has shown flashes of being a good overall scorer from two, three, and the free-throw line. Selden has the potential to be a Wesley Matthews with his size, strength, body control, shooting, and defensive potential.
